I have found children's Claratyne helpful for DS when he's had a runny nose.

As others have stated, panadol/neurofen, fess & vicks are good to have on hand.

    Hydrolyte icey-poles in the freezer.
We always keep half a loaf of white bread in the freezer (to make plain toast) and some plain crackers on hand for gasto events.

I usually try and keep a special DVD for the kids to watch when they are sick.

Durotuss makes a cough medicine for babies 6 months and older. I just bought one recently.

I'm sure you could buy/find something similar in a pharmacy as well.

I second the cough medicine from Durotuss for 6 months +. I used it for DS who is 2.5yo just recently, he had an absolutely horrible cough, on day 3 bought this stuff and it was amazing, his cough dramatically decreased, almost stopped and as soon as it started to wear off it would start again. I highly recommend it and I'm not one to give medicine if I can help it.

Also definitely would have Vicks, panadol, nurofen, ventolin (if prone to asthma when sick), maybe a humidifier although I've never personally used one.
