I would understand. Especially this year as I've done it myself. I felt absolutely horrible that I hadn't remembered but better to say it late and apologise than never say happy birthday at all.

I am not the sensitive type..I'd not take it against her but will definitely ask her for a dinner treat to make it up to me.
