Default Parents who don't vaccinate their children are set to lose FTA after the next budget.

    http://www.theage.com.au/federal-pol...x.html?stb=twt

Parents who do not vaccinate their children will lose welfare payments of up to $2100 per child under a federal government policy set to be announced before the May budget.

Under changes that could save more than $50 million a year, Social Services Minister Scott Morrison is preparing to scrap a "conscientious objection" provision which allows anti-vaccination parents to still claim welfare benefits including childcare assistance and Family Tax Benefit A.

What do people think about this?

Yeah - I agree LoveLivesHere - I'd be worried about families falling into poverty over this.

As pro-vax as I am I'd rather people be convinced by the science than $$.

I'd also be bracing myself for the first case where a child has a bad reaction and the lawyers waltz in.

I think it's fair enough. It you want the benefits that come from being part of a society (FTBA), then you should play your part in providing benefits to others in that society (herd immunity for those who can't be immunised).

i am extremely pro vaccination BUT I do not agree with making children go without basic **** because their parents are twats,
plus what if you dont agree to them, get it done because you have to to recieve govt assistance and then your kid reacts to it? can you then sue the govt because they forced it?

no, just no, removal of CCB / CCR perhaps because childcare is high risk for children and not a complete necesity but removing 400$ a fortnight of a parent will just harm theses kids

If you had asked me a couple of years ago, I would have said as a pro vaxxer I didn't support it. Now I do. It's time people started taking responsibility. Vaccination works. There is no conspiracy theory, no thimerosol, no autism links and the injury/reaction rate vs danger of the disease is minuscule. You (a general you) are risking the life of my newborn. We can't force you to vax, but why should you be paid by the govt to be socially irresponsible?

And yes, DH and I are up to date with all our vaxxes, as are all our family before we get to the 'but it's usually adults' argument. We asked everyone to be up to date or they couldn't be around DS.

I admit - this one has me stumped. On one hand I am like Del - sick of the antivaxxers saying the same old thing, no matter how many times it's been debunked, but on the other hand - as someone else said, it isn't the kids fault their parents lack critical thinking skills and don't know how to research. It's sad to think they will be the ones to suffer - either if they lose money - or if they catch a VPD.

I'm not really up to date with FTA but of the 39000 co's for vaccination I'd be interested in knowing how many families this would affect? What are the demographics of those who CO to vaccination?
