My first post here. I was just needing information on a reversal for my partner. He has two children from his previous relationship but I would now like one with him. I live in the gold coast area in qld. Was just wondering what is the cost for it these days and does medicare cover anything ? We don't have private health insurance. I am 32 years of age my partner is 41 and has had the snip for 5 years only thing is i recently had to get one of my fallopian tubes out as had a cyst in it which tangled and killed one tube. Is this going to make falling pregant harder ? Really looking forward to hearing from people that have been through this recently just so I know how much we need to save for it. Is there vitamins that we both should start taking to help ? Is there a waiting list for the reversal ?

There are a couple of groups you can search on here (sorry I don't know how to put the links up as I'm on the BH app) "TTC after vasectomy reversal" and "Vasectomy Reversal or ICSI/IVF? Don't know which way to go!" There are a few of us who have gone through VR and are currently TTC.
My DF and I don't have insurance, we were approx 8 years since his vasectomy and opted for reversal. We looked at our options and decided to go with a private urologist (our G.P referred us) as opposed to going with a reversal specialist/clinic. He used the same techniques as the big guns but saved quite a bit in money terms for us. I believe a big one up near you is MetroCentre, but come onto those groups I mentioned as a couple of the girls went through them and may have some advice? We got just short of $1,000 back from Medicare so our out of pocket expenses were approx $4,200. Quite a few people in the group haven't had success since their reversals so have opted for IVF/ISCI, and some in hindsight wishing they had gone straight to that method. Our choice was to op for the reversal first, if it didn't work we would be ok with that then would try IVF. As it happens we are 4 months post VR and it's been a technical success, he has swimmers yay! But as its early days his motility isn't amazing but we are told this is to be expected and hopefully should get better as time goes on. There is a risk of the tubes scarring over and numbers declining but only time will tell, fingers crossed it doesn't! I'm not sure in your situation with your tubes what would be best for you to do, I would assume go straight to IVF but that would involve an extra procedure/cost for retrieving your partners sperm surgically under anaesthesia. Talk to your gp, while s/he isn't a specialist in that particular field they may be able to give their opinion as to what would be best for you both as let's face it, Urologists and Fertility specialists are both going to sell their procedure as being best!
We have started menevit for him and elevit for me but there are many different brands out there! The normal healthy diet/exercise lifestyle regime is always recommended too!
Sorry for my novel, hope that has helped you 😊

Thank you so so much for your help. How long before the reversal would you start the menevit?
Do you know if there is a thread on which health insurances cover vasectomy reversal ?

No probs 😊 I'm not sure if there are threads regarding insurance companies and reversals, maybe type in the search bar and see if you have any luck. I think most insurance companies have a stand down period of 6months-1year after signing up so it might pay to call them and find out? I guess if you go down the reversal path you would want to go sooner rather than later as there is better success if the time between vasectomy and reversal is shorter.
We didn't start menevit until after his reversal, I think from memory it is recommended to start 3moths prior to TTC for men and one month prior for females. I'm not sure how it would go taking the supplements to improve the sperm when there isn't any where for them to go prior to reversal, good question though, it gets you thinking if there would be any benefits in that!
