Default Balanced Translocation and Blastocyst transfer

    Hello,

My DH has balanced translocation, chromosome 5 and 15. Is said to be fairly innocuous. He is said to have 25 - 50%viable sperm. I have PCOS which makes the matter more complicated. Have been ttc for over a year, 3 failed cycles of clomid and looking to start IVF. Haven't had much info from FS, to be honest he doesn't seem to know an awful lot about it. He suggested PGD testing at blastocyst stage but I am not sure if that will add much value (twice the cost).

From what he said it is likely that sperm with BT will not fertilise past day two or 3. By this logic if I opt for blastocyst transfer (day 5 or 6) is it logical to think that the embryo, if it reaches this stage is less likely to have BT?

From what I have read, this seems to be the case? as ppl with BT have a reduced success rate of embryos reaching blastocyst.

Just wondering if anyone could shed some light? Thank you!

    Hey,
I'm not sure if it makes a difference if the male or female had the translocation, but I have one on chromosomes 13/14. I also have endometriosis and dh had low motility and low morphology (but high #s).
We had day 3 testing and day 5 fresh transfers. First time lucky with one baby and 1 frozen. FET unfortunately ended in missed miscarriage, and second egg collection resulted in a chemical pregnancy, but I am pregnant again now with my second son from my 4th egg collection (one embryo from 3rd egg collection was thawed and tested with 4th batch and refrozen after passing testing).

My brother also has the same translocation but hasn't started ttc yet. When diagnosed (via amniocentesis when in utero) they said he'd really only have problems if his partner also had same translocation.
My mother and sister have it too but conceived naturally each 5 times. Mother lost only 1 (her 4th) pregnancy and sister lost first 3.

I hope you have luck with your journey.

Hi BabyinJune, thank you for sharing your story. It gives me hope. I am so anxious I will not end up with anything to transfer!! Are you in Australia ? My specialist said they are aiming to retrieve 10 -12 eggs that it isn't safe to aim for more. In my case I really need more eggs to increase my chance of success.

Yes I'm in Australia. I went to mivf. Does your clinic have a geneticist or genetic counsellor you call talk to? They'll be able to explain more than you need to know really..
I honestly think the cycle I had most eggs from was my worst, quality wise. If you look at my signature you can see the numbers.
That cycle also didn't require "scheduling" the pgd biopsy date so I wasn't on birth control pill before I stemmed. The first cycle had a month on bcp and the last two cycles each had a fortnight.
