    Default Safety issues with a screen door

    Hoping other parents can help me. We have a standard screen door on our sliding door in our lounge area. We need to toddler proof this door urgently. We are currently renting so upgrading to a security door is unfortunately not an option.

    Please show me what you've done to combat the issue of your toddler falling through the screen without losing the functionality of the screen. We are desperate as we've been unable to leave the door open since our ds has been on the move (6 + months).

    We were looking for something like this but there doesn't appear to be anything at all like it in Australia.

    I didn't even realise falling through a screen door was an issue! Is there a drop the other side of the screen? Like down some steps? Ours goes out onto the flat patio area and it never occurred to me that it needed making safe.

    It isn't big enough and I can't find a bigger one.

    Falling through the screen is definitely a thing. It is only held in with the black tubing, a small amount of pressure and ds has gone straight through it and landed on his head on the concrete. Cue mercy dash to the ER. It's definitely a safety concern in our house!

    Only thing I can think of is a sheet of perspex across it but I don't know how you could secure it. The only thing I can think of is duct tape and that's probably not secure enough. Only other thing I can think of is to ask your landlord to replace the door with one with a grill. Maybe offer to pay half.

    Could you just put a baby gate in front of the screen between the sliding door and the wall/frame? You should be able to wedge it in place. You might need an extension piece as well.
    Otherwise, for a cheaper option, you could just measure it up and get a cheap piece of board or plastic and wedge it in place. Depending on the type of screen you may be able to drill some holes and zippy tie to make it more secure as well.
