Not sure if this has been covered before.
If you find someone online (eg here on BH) that you recognise, do you pm them to tell them you know who they are?
Do people pm you to say they know you IRL or should you expect them to?
I messaged someone I recognised here a while back thinking it was etiquette and while I don't change my posts knowing they are in here, I wonder if anyone else knows me and just hasn't said.
I'm pretty open on here and easily recognised by people who know me IRL.
I guess after all that, what's the etiquette on identifying someone?

I would tell someone. I would want someone to tell me.
I don't know what the etiquette is but the above is my opinion.
I guess some people would worry if they told someone they recognised them that it leaves them open to having to identify themselves as well. They may want to stay anonymous on here

I "know" you but not IRL 😝
I don't know if I'd tell a person I knew IRL. I'm an extremely private person and wouldn't want to out myself.

I'd want to know. Though an almost embarrassingly high number of people I know in real life I met directly or indirectly through bubhub so theres really no need to have that conversation. lol.
I'd also be super curious to confirm I was right if I thought I knew someone IRL on bubhub (that I didn't know from bubhub obviously)

From past threads about this it seems there's no one clear etiquette on this. Some people would want to know, others wouldn't.
For me - if anyone recognises me I'd want to know. I think its polite to let people know someone from their offline life has bumped into them on here so that they post in the full knowledge that that information could make it into their offline life...
I have recognised people before and PMed them to let them know that we know each other in the offline world. They appreciated it and I felt I could continue on BH with a clear conscience. Otherwise I'd feel almost like I was spying on them.
That said, I know that others feel differently and that's okay.
