How awful. Just tragic. I haven't been in your situation, or your friends, so I'm not sure what you could do, maybe just let them know you are there if they need you.

Let them know you are there for them and ask if there is anything they need. Keep in mind they could want space to grieve as well. Really, there's nothing more you can do other than letting them know you care...it may not seem like much, but it can be a small comfort.
I'm so sorry for your/their loss, that's just so heartbreaking.

oh how devastating I guess just be there to listen as much as you can. if she's struggling maybe cook up some meals for her to freeze? you sound like a lovely friend.
