    @jackbenimble are you still reading?

    We are going back for project sibling in may next year. I've lost the link to where you stayed, can you please post it again?

    Other ladies where have you stayed? We're only going to be on Oahu for a cpl iPod days before going to one of the islands for a holiday post transfer so wanted to stay in Honolulu this time. We stayed at Waianae last time which was very quiet and right on the beach but about as far west as you can get so far from the clinic!

    Default Accomodation waikiki

    @Chiefsgirl. Congrats on your little girl and thanks for feedback. We leave tomorrow so I think I'll be able to hold off. We stayed for the first few nights at the Surfjack hotel. It's lovely, simple though they fit out is brand new and great. Its a good location to the hospital too. The staff were lovely and very accomodating. Our flight meant we arrived at 7am to the hotel and though checkin was technically not until 3pm they put us in a room straight away. Check out their website. No kitchen facilities though but good areas outside of room to sit and relax. A block back from beach. We have been using Uber which is considerably cheaper than cabs. Royal Hawaiian have good deals for accom and airfare to the other islands. Might be worth looking at. I hope this helps

    @Chiefsgirl yes still occasionally reading when I have a spare minute. Life has been super busy since the arrival of the twins. They are nearly 11 months old now and doing great. Going to Hawaii for egg donation was a good decision for us. We can't imagine life without them.

    Good to hear you are going back for a sibling! We still have five embryos on ice but hubby says three is enough for him so we are considering embryo donation. We always stay at a privately owned apartment in the heart of Waikiki on Beachwalk. Fantastic location, 40 metres from the beach and close to conceptions. The apartment has fantastic views, a full kitchen and two bathrooms. It costs us around $210 US a night. I will pm you the link to apartment so you can see the pics. We have stayed there four times now... it is so convenient and a real find. Regarding side trips, I would recommend going to Maui and staying along Kaanapali Beach. Beach is lovely (voted number beach in the world) has lots of great restaurants that are walkable and good snorkelling right off the beach. We stayed at the Westin there which was beautiful. Can't wait to go back!

    How is your little one doing?

    Hi all, I am new to the forum as well and came across this thread as we are looking at Conceptions Hawaii this year. From the signatures of a few members, it seems like it was a success! Congratulations! Was wondering if any of you who used Conceptions came across any unforeseen issues, like issues with medical screening of the selected donor, egg quality, unexpected costs, etc? We are looking at a few other options in the mainland, and weighing up our options. Thank you!

    Hi Greenie,
    we used Conceptions Hawaii last year. The service from Conceptions is excellent, cant fault them On that. Adrián is very responsive and helpful. We were disappointed in our results though, we were one of the unlucky 20% that it didnt work for and didnt end up with heaps of embryos to freeze. In terms of unexpected Costs, asíde from the $35K for the program, you can expected to pay about $1000 for medications anda a further $1000 for your cycle monitoring here in Oz before You go. Then, if You end up with embryos to freeze, then Thats a further US1400. If You want to go back and do a frozen embryo transfer then Thats a further US4500. There seems to be no end to the expenses and we have nothing to show for it, but there are plenty of others that it has worked for and im sure they would say its worth every dóllar.

    Hi. Just wanted to put down a recent experience with Conceptions Hawaii and Pacific IVF (Hawaii). Warning - that this is not a positive review - so if you are currently seeing them or have already booked in, perhaps don't continue reading. I know how much you try to seek reassurance from blogs and i did the same and was reassured by this thread. I am also jaded, and admit that - as my cycle didn't work. Adrian from Conceptions Hawaii - was very pushy at the beginning of my journey - into making me decide on a donor. I was very stressed due to this and made to feel like she was selling me a house. Kept telling me that if i didn't pay a deposit to secure the donor - she would allow another couple to jump in front of me.... and i am talking days..... not weeks in my attempts to decide. Anyhow - got over that. On arrival to Hawaii - i was assigned Dr Kosasa. My intro to him - was when he walked into the room i was half naked in to do the transvaginal US. There was no appointment / meeting before hand to introduce himself, or discuss the days ahead. He did the US - told me he would transfer 2 embryo's and then tried to walk out of the room. I asked if he was my treating specialist and when i was told he was - i asked if he could do me a favour and sit and discuss what was planned. They rushed me into a room and he seemed a little put out - by the fact that i told him if this was a good cycle, with good embryo's that i only wanted one transferred. Less than 10 min consult and he was out the door. I was given an update from Adrian on day 4 - and incorrectly told the embryo report from day 3 (believing this was a day 4 update) - to be told that the embryo's were all less than 8 cell. On day 4 - this was distressing and put me into a worried state that something was wrong. After multiple emails asking if i could find out what was going on - Adrian called me - she told me that i was being irrational for being concerned about the embryo report and that i should just calm down. Completely dismissed my concerns - and now on reflection - i really shouldn't have been worried - as on day 3 - the embryo's were all doing well. She just told me the wrong day for the report. So on transfer day - i was brought to the basement of the hospital - told by the nurse to undress and without any doctor speaking to me, told that the embryo's hadn't developed well. I demanded a doctor speak to me - and the embryologist came in and explained that there were 2 embryo's - delayed in progression. At that point - i decided to transfer 2, not 1 embryo due to the reduced chances of success. This was done 1 minute before the transfer happened. I barely had time to comprehend what was going on. Dr Kosasa was nowhere in sight. He then walked in - transferred the 2 embryo's and walked out. I decided the next day that i needed more information and Adrian helped to arrange an appointment with Dr Kosasa. He had 10 minute discussion with me the following day. I am a doctor myself, and his treatment of me in that consult was disgraceful. Despite my husband having normal sperm parameters, he told me that poor results must be due to a sperm issue. The donor i used has now been taken off the Conceptions Hawaii site. So - coming from Australia - and paying $40,000 for the process - i saw the treating IVF specialist for a total of 10-15 minutes - all after me demanding his time. I am completely jaded by this whole experience. I would not recommend Conceptions Hawaii - or Pacific IVF Hawaii. I know lots of people have had good experiences - but mine has been anything but..... I decided on the USA for the donation as i was hoping for excellent / informed / empathetic care - of which there was none.

    I'm sorry @nikkinoo76 that you had a bad experience. It sounds exactly like mine although I'd been through ivf so many times that it didn't really bother me that they didn't spend much time with me. I can't remember the first doctor I saw but he wasn't very warm or inviting. I did request a different doctor on my third attempt and found him to be a lot warmer. It is a lot of money to spend and you do expect more from it unfortunately it still took me 3 goes at it. Strange that yours has been taken off the donor list, I would be requesting a free go at it since the donor was obviously not a good one. I'm not sure I believe their claim of 85% success rate.

    Have you spoken to Adrian since?

    Default Egg Donation in the US

    I am sorry you have been disappointed with your experience. In comparison.. The treatment I received in Cape Town on my 3 trips for DE has been great and would definately recommend SOuth Africa. I am currently 14 weeks pregnant.

    So - the only follow up from Adrian from Conceptions center Hawaii has been 1. On the day of me telling her the pregnancy test was negative - an email reply stating she that she was saddened to hear my result. She then said she had 'heard i had got my period' - which wasn't true - so she obviously had me mixed up with another patient. I had a negative blood test - little things, but again a little slip up on her end - which made me feel she wasn't completely on top of things.
    She then (to her credit) arranged for the embryologist to call me - which he did in person.
    I have not heard from her since. For someone who was 'very' responsive before the egg donation happened - to no further follow up has been disappointing.
    The embryologist was much more open about the negative result - and rather than Dr Kosasa who said that the cycle failure MUST be due to a sperm issue - he said it was still unclear as to why it didn't work out. I now have the embryology report and not one person involved in the process from the Hawaii end - has comment on the fact the egg donors eggs were graded as "fair" - which I don't think you would expect from an egg donor... they grade egg quality from poor -> fair-> good. I would have though an egg donor would provide good eggs..... I'm not upset that this may have just been bad luck for me to pay $40k for a bad cycle - but I am upset that Dr Kosasa has led me to believe that the failure of the cycle MUST be due to a sperm issue - which may have been misleading. I don't think he was aware of the fact my husband has normal DNA fragmentation parameters. He didn't ask and he did not have this result as he had not requested it. It is a bold statement to make to someone without being fully informed. I do not trust this clinic.
