I'm with you on that. There's plenty of time for getting into the ins and outs of this sort of thing; but now is not it.

I'm in favour/support of Capital Punishment/Death Penalty (call it what you will). I believe there are definitely cases (think Daniel Morcombe, Jill Meagher and crimes like it) where it's most definitely warranted.
I don't believe it is in this case. Whatever the reason they were executed, be it political or otherwise, there's nothing anyone can do as another countries laws are completely out of our control to change. We'd be up in arms if another country told us what to do in regards to our justice system.
That being said, firing squad is archaic when other methods are available to use and I believe the way the boys and their families were treated in the lead up to this (especially the boys) was atrocious!!
The only thing we can realistically do is boycott the country for holidays, etc.

I dont see aust pulling its diplomats out of these countries either, USA is up there and we actively work with them,
I dont agree with death penalty, I think no one has the right to kill someone else, I particularly dont like the way the system has worked that people whove done much worse crimes appear to have gotten clemency but you cant be so enraged about two people while countries we work with, suport etc actively do the same

Julie Bishop speaks of "consequences" but IMO there won't be any I feel as we do too much trade with Indonesia and places like them and that's why nothing will ever change although the politicians talk tough.

So saddened by the news today.
Other than what I've obviously seen on the news and on social media about this over the past decade, I haven't closely followed the situation due to not really wanting to become emotionally involved - yet the news is still heartbreaking.
Absolutely shocks me the amount of heartless people who believed they deserve this and have zero compassion. Humans are frightening creatures.

Just a polite reminder that the original intent of this thread was for those who stood for 'mercy' and therefore in light of today's events, please be mindful that the majority reading/following this thread may find posts to the contrary/debating the topic in poor taste and distressing, today especially.

I don't believe in the death penalty at all. Yes they did the wrong thing, but to have their lives ended in such a b@rb@ric way is disgusting. I was hoping that mercy would be given and was saddened by this mornings news. May they rip

I don't support the death penalty. I don't have any intention of going to Indonesia ever. I do think if there is enough protest, one country can force changes in another country. but it is not something that happens over night, or for the sake of one or two people. I do think the suffering for the families will be life long, and that is very sad. May these two men Rest in Peace. and also the other people who have been executed today. it is such a sad day. marie.
