I've looked into it before and it has to be out for a long time and they barely give you anything.

Hopefully your power comes back on soon. If you don't open the doors, it will stay cold for a fair amount of time

If its out for 12 continuous hours in wa, western power will reimburse you $80. A couple of years ago we lost power for almost 24hrs, the day after I'd done my fortnightly shop

I know with scheduled outages in NSW you are not entitled to anything. We have had a fair few in recent times lasting 4-6 hours. As long as you don't keep on opening fridge/freezer doors the food remains cold.
I guess if the food did spoil it may be more of an insurance issue?

Do not open the fridge or freezer,
Your food will be fine for at least 12 hours if you do not open them

We have a generator for backup that will run the fridge & freezer just in case
