We were taking a light hearted dig at Aussie bogan culture.

Many booze names have been dropped, not just Shiraz.

Geez, put the phone down Russell!

Omg seriously? Its a bottle of wine. FFS...can't even have a light hearted laugh on a Friday without being called racist.

You clearly need a glass of shiraz to calm your farm! Or maybe a shot of that stolly vodka.

Oh dear. I really don't believe there was an racism involved here? Aussies can have a tendency to name their kids after alcohol. The OP didn't mean this in a bad way, just having a harmless laugh.

Just to be clear, I don't think there was any intended racism here.

So it's ok to misinterpret the intent of someone's post and call them classless but not ok to start a light hearted thread on a parenting forum without doing in depth research first?

I think starting a post to ridicule an actual name rather than making one up, is classless. I didn't misinterpret anything, that's exactly what the post was here for.

Look, I just know how I would feel if I saw my name being ripped to shreds like this. I'm just calling it as I see it.

Sorry OP but I really dislike it.
    That's different.

I'm going to ask my work colleagues to refer to me as Bacardi from now on

I get where you're coming from. But there are ways, like - hey, just FYI, don't know if you're aware, but this is actually a real name in certain parts of the world. Might be a bit hurtful for someone with this name to stumble across this thread.

    Or, hey, you're all classless.

That was pretty much what my first comment said but when it became clear that no one cared about that I called it as I saw it.

And I didn't call people classless, I said this post was classless. There's a big difference.

For what it's worth Sally1981 I can understand where you're coming from. I don't think anyone meant to be hurtful here, I'm positive the OP was just having a laugh and didn't realise people would actually name their children Shiraz in some cultures; however I have a few relatives and friends with that name and it did make me a bit sad to see people making fun of it.
