Yep, and you have every right to put a name up on a forum for public ridicule, without checking the origin of the name first, if that's how you want to get a laugh. I'm not disputing that, it's just that you run the risk of people who think that's not the nicest thing to do, using the same public forum to tell you what they think.

Who's up for a glass of Shiraz? Me me me me me me!!!

I don't need to look up the definition of anything. If you take it the wrong way, which you absolutely have, that's your problem @Sally1981.
I don't appreciate your innuendos here, in fact i find THAT really offensive.
    My reference was not racist.

It's a joke about people naming their babies after different types of alcohol. Whilst I appreciate that the name has a different meaning in a different culture, the majority of Australians would recognise "Shiraz" as wine.

No one is making fun of a different culture.
The OP could have gone all out then and suggested 'Sauvignon Blanc' or something like that, but she didn't, she chose to use an actual name. I'm going to assume here that you don't actually know anyone with that name. When you do, it looks really tasteless to open up a post and see 30 people tearing a name to shreds. I'm not offended, it's not my name, it's just tasteless.

If people find the name Champagne funny, are the French being ridiculed?

Look, calling me tasteless is true. You're right. I have no morals. No class.

Cheers for ruining a light-hearted thread. You don't like it or don't get it, don't read it.
