Omg I'm in woolies and this little girl (maybe three?) licked a cherry then put it back in the pile! So I just said really nicely and quietly: 'sweetie, you need to eat that now because it's been in your mouth'.
Her mum went ballistic and yelled at her right in her face and slapped her. I said 'look, it's really not a huge deal, there's no need to be upset.' Then tried to be like 'my son licks food like that all the time' cos I'm here alone and I didn't want her to think I was all judgey. Just, it's gross you know?
Then she started on me like 'why did you bother saying anything if it's no big ****ing deal?' I said 'because it's gross, but nothing is worth treating your LO like that.' Then the manager came over to step in and I ran away.
I should've just not said anything I know, but that poor little girl :-(

Oh :-( I'm shaking just reading that. Hugs to you Harvs..... I would have said some thing too

I would have too! You didn't do anything wrong.
People are way too weird these days. If my kid had of licked a cherry I would have told them to go back and get it and not be gross... not overreacted like a turd...

What a hideous scene
Glad the manager stepped in before it got any more heated.
What an overreaction from the mother. She sounds like a volatile human being. I feel sorry for her little one

Woah. You did nothing wrong at all, totally appropriate response. What a crazy woman, that poor girl must be humiliated.

Fwiw I don't think you did anything wrong at all and I most likely would have done the same. I just can't seem to understand people these days in regards to OTT reactions like that. Poor kid and poor you harvs, I would be freaking out after that encounter too. What's wrong with people!

She slapped her?! My god thats horrible.
She was either having a **** of a day or she shouldn't have had kids... Either way, totally not acceptable.

Far out I'd probably be mortified if my kid did that but jeepers that's an over - reaction from the mum, poor little possum!
Harvs you did nothing wrong, you couldn't have known the mother would react that way?
