My ex took the Bamix stick blender when we split (I really miss that Bamix!). I have a normal blender as well because it's good for doing large quantities of smoothies (helps with 5 kids), but I would still consider a stick blender. I mostly like using the stick blender for soups as it eliminates having to fiddle around transferring to the blender. Plus it encouraged me to make healthy smoothies for myself because there's minimal cleaning.
