I received a gourmet food hamper plus some baby clothes! We had been taken out for a very nice degustation dinner the fortnight before so I wasn't expecting anything, it was a nice surprise!

A bonus paid day off from the organisation between Christmas and New Years, and a lunch out at a restaurant for our Christmas party (no partners, on a work day, budget of $35 pp).
Some lovely hand creams from my direct manager and a bottle of bubbles from my senior manager.
I work for a large not-for-profit NGO, it would be pretty dodgy if the organisation provided expensive gifts to staff IMO.

I worked full time for almost 4yrs, did not once receive a Christmas gift, was promised bonus's every year, but never saw one, in the end they used the recession and a few other things as excuse not to reward their employees.

No present this year, but we did get a Xmas party with partners included.

Last year we were given a cheese board set.

I'm not phased by the lack of gift because my boss is great to work for and I'm content with my job. When times were financially better for the business we received bonuses - that was awesome!

At a previous job we would receive $300 Coles Myer gift cards - that was great too

Nothing for the past 2 years. Previously we received something with our company logo - eg an umbrella or cooler bag.

I work for a not for profit employer though so I'd rather money be directed towards those in need (I'd like to think that's where the savings are going instead of into the pockets of the bigwigs) instead of a crappy gift anyways.

😣 Not this old chestnut again.

    1. Yes it is illegal.
    2. It makes no difference if you are casual or not.

Maternity leave rights are only applicable if you've worked casually for an employer for 12 months.

I got a little giftbag with a cr@ppy pen, a couple of chocolates, and a keyring.
They also put on a lunch for us. And at the lunch there's a raffle, which I won a bottle of red wine.

Lots of people whined about the gift, but I don't really care. I didn't expect a gift. Plus there's hundreds of employees at my work and it's just a private business, so it'd cost a fortune to buy us all a substantial gift.

The best gift of all is when we're all dragged into the office and the boss stands at the front and with tears in her eyes, thanks us all so much for our hard work, acknowledges that we work so so hard in difficult conditions, and wishes us to have a safe and happy holiday time.
Sounds corny, but every other job I've had we were only spoken to by management when we'd done something wrong, we were treated like sh!t and never EVER thanked for a job well done.
A thankyou really goes a long way!

This isn't related to maternity leave rights, it's related to discrimination.
