    Default Real estate question

    Hi, about 2 weeks ago I had a plumber come out as there was a gas smell in our living room. He found there was no gas leak and it was just letting off a smell(?) He said it should be fine. I was going to call again because it is getting worse and it is right where my ds plays.
    Today. The day before christmas! I got a letter from my re saying we have to pay for the plumber as there was no fault. Is this right? I am too scared to tell them about other things that have broken if this is the case.

    The plumber also was going to report them as there is no vent in the room which is required by law.

    Gas does not let off a smell? Usually a gas smell does mean there is a leak - Gas itself is odourless and they add a chemical to it that smells so if there is a leak you can smell it!
    I would call the gas company and talk to them about it - they may send someone over to check? ( tell them your the tenant )

    If you get the landlord to organise a tradesperson for a repair or problem that is a false alarm then yes the tenant is usually liable for the call out fee - not if there was a problem obviously but I would still call the gas company as it still seems weird you can smell gas - if they do find something then make sure you get it in writing as the plumber is wrong and no one should pay him!

    Is your gas piped in or do you have bottles outside? I find that right before the bottle runs out it has a smell.
    Don't know about the RE stuff.
