I don't think it's weird at all, if that's the name you like - use it! As long as your DH is happy with it I see no problems. I'm sure your friend would be a bit chuffed that you like his name so much that you chose to use it for your child! Doesn't mean he will be named after your friend, just that you simply like the name.

DS1 has the same name of a long-term male friend of mine. We weren't super close before I used the name, we travelled in the same circles and went to the same parties but didn't meet up individually regularly or anything. I'd never met anyone named Lincoln when I met my friend, loved the name then and I still love it now. It was the only male name I considered when pregnant. I remember saying to people before I fell pregnant I would totally "steal" that name. I asked my male friend if he minded if I used it. He was very chuffed and it has bought us closer together. He calls DS1 his namesake and DS loves Big Lincoln. Not a single person thought it was weird! Or if they did they didn't say it to my face. Other male friends were annoyed I didn't use their names with DS1, and when I was pregnant with DS2 other friends were offering their names.
Go ahead and do it if you love the name

Thanks for all the replies.
I think I'll shove it to the top of our boy's list and let DP have final say. There are 4 of this name on his FB friend list too, so I guess when you choose a common name you'll always know someone else with it! Cheers.

I wouldn't have thought much of this in the past, but it has happened in our friendship circle recently, and to be honest it is a bit weird. Someone named her daughter a name that was the same as another friend...we probably all catch up every one to two years, but still remain close on social media. I can't explain it...it's just odd. Maybe it's worse because the name is quite unique and she never let on that she liked it prior to the announcement.
