Lost two chooks in two days. One I found yesterday morning, had clearly fallen off where she sleeps (on top of the house we made for them). Not sure if she died and fell or the other way around.
Then the other, I was suspicious of yesterday as she refused to come out of the house all day, and refused to eat. And sure enough, dead this morning.

Couldn't find anything obviously wrong with either of them Hope it's not something that will take them all out.

Oh no @Ahalfdozen I'm sorry to hear this - and we were just talking chickens in the other thread yesterday hope it was just a random coincidence and the others are ok.

They were rescue birds from a poultry farm that got taken by floods. We lost two when we first got them. So maybe it was just injuries or something that took a while.
    I hope.

Hmm, I think I figured it out. I think because they were two of the smaller/weaker birds, that the others just blocked them from food. Which sucks.

It's possible. Chickens can be real b!tches when new ones are introduced. How many others do you have? Whenever I introduce new girls, I always try to get at least half the number we already have to give them a chance! I usually end up with 2 clear flocks, but it does give the newbies a chance as they stick together.

These ones that died were part of the larger group. My Isas, which I had first, are just mean to other chooks sometimes. I only had one feed thing going, so have filled the second one up again so hopefully it won't happen again.

On a lighter note, my chookies went crazy for their frozen lettuce. I make them quite regularly but have forgotten to for the last week. IMG_1483429616.154265.jpg

And here is one of my girls photobombing when I tried to get the pic haha IMG_1483429635.603402.jpg

Made some new nesting boxes for my girls. I did the ideas and painting. Hubby did the cutting, screwing, nailing.

My faith has been restored in my chooks! In my previous post (in this thread) I mentioned that our chooks had developed the terrible habit of eating their eggs if we were too slow to collect them (like if we left the farm for the day, before they'd laid).

Well, yesterday and today we both had to leave before they had laid and didn't return home until after 3pm. None of the eggs were eaten! Fingers crossed they keep this up!

    Very happy chicken mama here!
