My MIL is staying tomorrow night & DH is away, I just spent a cr@p load of time cleaning the house! She was supposed to come last week but cancelled on the day, she lives 12hrs (drive) away so I would have expected at the very least 24hrs notice of the visit being cancelled, no we got about 8hrs... So anyway I should have a couple of pearlers by this time tomorrow!!

And she's gone! Was a pleasant visit, apart from the awkward sitting in silence watching TV when kids had gone to bed... I think problem with our relationship is we have nothing in common apart from my DH & the kids & I don't see her often enough for her to know what is going on in our lives (DH never calls her despite my encouragement to) so after we talk about the kids we have nothing... Lucky it was a quick visit!!

I'm so angry. Just asked MIL what they are buying dd for Xmas so nobody doubled up. MIL said they hadn't bought anything and was just going to give DD some money....
FFS she's not even 2! She doesn't want or understand money! She wants something to open and play with! I told her to go out and buy something- doesn't matter how much...her reply was oh but I don't know what she has... Yes you do you live with us!

What a lazy biatch... Can't be bothered buying her own granddaughter a present. Disgusted.

ETA I've just reread your post. She lives with you. Yeah that is poor form. I thought there may have been issues with paying for postage or the like.
I know I probably come across as ungrateful. But honestly at this age I would prefer a $2 gift than $100 cash.

Great idea about the bank account it's been in my to do list for ages.

I'm just so hurt and upset. I think little thought has been given to dd and I can't help but think because we are all living together it's had a negative impact on their relationship MIL always fawns over my nephew when he visits twice weekly (same age) but dd is lucky to get a hello and good night, certainly no cuddles

My mum does that too. It's so annoying and disappointing to the child.
Or they get them something that breaks.

My MIL loves Tony Abbott and Liberal.

She said the following on the weekend:

"I wish they'd stop picking on Tony" a few times.

And when Joe Hockey appeared on TV she said "oh I just love Joe Hockey, he is divine".

    Ermergherd.

I doubt my MIL will buy anything for DS. She never has for any birthday or Christmas so far.

I am just in the process of deleting a huge number of emails that my MIL sent which are basically pics of DH at pretty much every month of life. I find it amusing that DD looks less like him at each month but I haven't said that to her lol
