There was a gap on the side. She squished him in there and he fell down the hole.

I do think these are the actions of someone who is mentally ill. The idea that someone who is rational and not suffering mental illness could do this is beyond my comprehension, so I am continuing on the basis that she is ill
In many kinds of illness the person doesn't see the baby as a human life... Just something to be dealt with. To be covered up or hidden or whatever ... It's incredibly sad
I hope the baby is ok. Xx

There's some photos here of the drain that will show people who are wondering how she got him in and how far he fell. There was a gap plenty big enough for baby to be dropped in, but not big enough for an adult to go through to climb down and get him, hence why they needed to lift off the concrete cover.

I'm just wondering if she gave birth at a hospital, did she come in alone?
And if so, would she have been discharged so soon after the birth all by herself too?
Don't hospitals ask these kinds of questions?
Next of kin, who can drive you home, etc , etc.
You would think at least one other person was aware of the child's birth.

Totally agree Phony. If no one was with her and she was compltely alone, that's another good reason why the hospital shouldn't have sent her on her way so quickly.

and apparently she came forward to the police on her own. that's pretty good of her.
I have also read that she had been in hospital prior to the birth but they didn't elaborate on when/why.

I just hope that the hospital staff are smothering that little boy in love and cuddles and kisses right now
