My sister is a practicing jew and lived in Israel for 3 years where she did maintain a completely kosher house - 2 kitchens, 2 sets of cutlery and plates and cookware as you cannot mix dairy and meat or even use the same utensils, obviously most of the food was kosher and easy to source - now here at home she actually became a vegetarian as it was too hard to maintain a completely kosher house! My grandmother also kept kosher as much as possible ( didn't have 2 kitchens though) and even though my mum and most of her siblings are not religious they still don't eat pork products of any kind- mainly as they never had them as kids and they found it does horrible things to their digestion I think as their system is not used to it!

I've always wondered about the two kitchens thing, I find it hard enough to maintain one kitchen! I find Kosher guidelines fascinating.

Lots of people have a problem with the cruel slaughter of animals - or the slaughter of animals full stop. But I have seen a lot recently where the people who are opposing halal are doing it because they believe that all halal food fund Muslim terrorists - which is a total crock. It does racists groups well for people to believe things like that though - so they are talking that up as well.

This is what it is like being coeliac with a family that eats gluten! Separate benches, chopping boards, frying pans and pots and toasters etc. So annoying

You can't control what other people post. All you can do is make your own posts constructive and polite which I think most people in this thread have one (including you).

Thanks to the mods for cleaning and re-opening. I was having a pout when I couldn't see the thread for a while because I am really enjoying learning about some of the differences between halal and kosher and what each of the Abrahamic religious believe and don't believe. It's fascinating!!

I must say I'm really surprised it lasted this long before things went pear shaped. I'm learning heaps too, I knew the welfare bit already but not all the other stuff.
