Default How can I get my 3 month old to take formula?

How can I get my 3 month old breastfed baby to take formula? Im not coping very well at the moment so id like dh to start giving one ff a day so I can have a break.

I just tried to give him a bottle of formula & he refused to drink it. Spat the little bit I gave him out.

He had formula all night when he was a few days old in the hospital & a couple of times after we first came home so its not like he's never had it before. I dont know why he wont take it

Sorry to hear your are having a tough time. Please know you are not alone in this, it can be very hard. Firstly you could try a different flow treat. One a bit faster than newborn. Then try a different type of bottle - some babies are fussy with what they will take. Also let your partner do the bottle feed because sometimes babies insist on breast when it's right in front of them! And perhaps try a feed when Bub is particularly hungry as it might be more appealing. All the best

Express into a bottle first and feed him BM, then gradually mix with formula once he has got used to that?

I had to buy every bottle/teat out there, no joke. And I tried every formula I think until I found one that my ds liked. it's a hard one to figure out op but worth a shot. I found the pigeon slim teats worked the best.

I think my DS was still on the slowest flow at that age.

Also some formulas taste awful (S26 does IMO). I recommend Bellamy's

Bellamy's is good I've heard... but be aware in advance bubs will have smelly farts and army green poo.. totally normal with bellamys. Some babies like different formulas.. some are sweeter than others.

At your DSs age my DDS was still on the slowest bottle, actually she stayed on it until about 6 months because all the faster ones made her sick.

It can be trial and error with bottles unfortunately but I'd definitely start with the slowest/newborn teat and then switch bottle shape if he's not keen.

I'm also another who swears by Bellamys. Also, with your DSs fussiness, I'd stay away from anything "gold"' with extra iron, it could make him even more uneasy and cause constipation
