Default Hello! Newbie here, just need advice about starting a family in Australia :)

    Hello everyone!

    New here, watch out!

A little bit about me, I'm 32 and I come from an island in the Caribbean, I traded the nice stable warm weather for the crazy unpredictability of Melbourne. Love it!

I came to Australia a few years back and now I'm planning to start a family. It's just me and my hubby, all of our family is overseas, so it can be a bit scary to do this alone.

Must of my friends here don't have kids, and the ones that do, had them a long time ago and can't advice me on how things are now.

I guess I just don't want to miss anything, so if you guys could advice me on anything at all that needs to be done, while planning, while pregnant or after giving birth it will be highly appreciated!

We're planning on going private, so far we have St. Vincents Private as first choice.

    Any recommendations are also welcome

    Thanks!

Hello Camm welcome, you've certainly come from a beautiful part of the world.
There is a section on the Hub with other members who live in Melbourne you may want to have a look at, but of course feel free to explore the whole forum as there are lot's of different pre and post natal sections you may find helpful.

I'd suggest a first step is going to your GP for a preconception check up and to ensure you are on a folate-containing/ pregnancy multivitamin at least 1 mth before TTC. Good luck.

Welcome! You'll be able to pick up so much info from this forum alone, but also check out the bubhub site, I found some invaluable information here.
Don't be shy to post any questions too, everyone really is so helpful
