I had a reading of 5.3 two hours after. I was very surprised as I had a white roll with it and probably too much potato. I was expecting high 6's..

Only 9 weeks - so I can't complain. I've had GD before so have been pretty much following the diet for most of the preg, although much more strictly now. How about you?

I am only 17 weeks in :/ I've got a looong way to go! Diagnosed at 9 weeks. I didn't have it with my other two. I feel like this is the longest pregnancy ever.

Oh that is a pain. Why did they test so early?

I'm not sure of the reasons. My GP just said they are beginning to test earlier now. Could be my age. I'm 32..

@bubbasmum, I feel your pain. I was diagnosed with GD at 10 weeks, and insulin controlled since 12 weeks. I'm almost at the end now though (36 weeks) and it has felt like a long haul at times. It is really hard at first but you do get used to it (sort of). I really miss dessert. Not that I ever had it every night, but just knowing that I can't have it...

I was surprised that potato doesn't actually affect my levels as much as things like rice, noodles and bread do - I guess they're more processed foods and the more processed they are the worse they are for your BGLs. I can't eat any sort of breakfast cereal either, even the super plain weet-bix pushes my levels too high.

Interesting that they're testing earlier now. And also there has been much chatter on BubHub about the differing numbers that they use to determine whether or not you have GD - depends on the doctor! Mine is very strict so I've got the newer, lower numbers to aim for.

@Goosey01, I forgot to say to you the other day, I have to start expressing colostrum from this week. Apparently that's also a new thing they get you to do when you have GD, so you have a bit saved up in case bubba's blood sugar is low at birth. I'll be really interested to hear if your doctor gets you to do the same at the 36-week mark. A couple of girls in my DIG do.
