    We got dd a ks.
Something to also consider is other furniture when the kids get a bit older. I imagine dd may need a desk and bookshelf when she is about 7 yo so would need room for that .

I get her sheets from kmart and target. Quilt just a regular single is big enough.

we just have a single with a trundle ... its great.

but she only has a small room. If i had a room big enough, I would probably get a bigger bed.

(though having extra space in the room to play is much more important later, so you dont want the bed taking the whole room)

My two eldest girls transitioned from the Cot into a King single and the reason we decided on that size was because we wanted them to be in them for a while, and if they're sick, a king single is big enough for an adult to sleep in if need be.
We also got a decent KS mattress not only for the comfort factor, but also because kids tend to sit on the edge of their beds a lot and all that sort of thing, so wanted the mattresses to withstand kids.

In answer to KS linen etc, 7 years ago it was a bit of a struggle for me to find KS linen, but not anymore, most big departments stores stock KS linen, but keep in mind also, double size sheets/doona covers etc, can also go on a KS.

The reason we didn't choose a double for the kids is because we often move house with DH's work, so a lot of the newer homes we have lived in have small bedrooms.

It's such a lovely milestone when your LO transitions into a big-girl/boy bed, they feel very special!

King single with a double doona so it has room to hang nicely over the bed.

We got a toddler bed, which I regret after having to spend the occasional night on the floor or having to bring him into our bed when he has been ill or had night terrors. We'll be getting a king single when we move so that one of us can sleep in there with him on the odd occasion that he wakes and needs cuddles.

    Thanks everyone for your input!

I'm leaning towards a king single now instead of a double

My dd went from a toddler bed straight into a double bed, she loves it and her and her brother love having 'sleep overs' in each other's rooms, plus we find it great for if dd is sick then I can sleep in her bed and not disturb dh.
