    Default House insurance

Just saw on the news & seen all the time these ppl who lose there homes so many of them are not insured! This one family lost there business, house contents & cars! It's not that expensive to insure! I just think it's so silly not to have insurance!

My husband thinks house insurance is a waste of money. If it was up to him we wouldn't have any. It makes me so mad when he talks like that. Lucky I am in charge of insurance.

It depends where you live. I used to work in insurance and some people were classified as being in a high risk area, so their policies were over $5,000 a year just for home insurance.

I agree though that insurance is a necessity unless you can afford to replace whatever gets damaged etc.

I actually said to my husband ( after another house fire on the news) that every story seems to be uninsured families.
Ours is $80 per month, but worth it. We have had to use it in the past.
If I lived somewhere "high" risk I would still pay the 5k a year.

To you it might not be 'that' expensive but to others $80-100 a month is. We don't have house (renting) or contents insurance. The most expensive thing in our house is our DVD collection... Which can all be replaced.

I can't understand why people don't have insurance either. I believe it is a necessity and it is worked into our budget just like every other living expense.

That price is completely unaffordable for most people on top of mortgage repayments etc, so I can understand why some people don't have insurance. Insurance companies have also changed their pricing structure over the last 10 or so years, so a lot of people bought houses when it was inconceivable their premiums would be that high.

When people are struggling to pay basic bills like electricity, home and contents insurance may not be on top of their priority list.

We've got home and contents, although there's not much worth stealing in this house. I don't wear jewellery, we don't have tablets, we don't keep money at home.
