    @Tinkbug all credit goes to Martha Stewart. It's a very good recipe, and there's even a video for it. I don't buy buttermilk, I just add a tablespoon of lemon or vinegar to the milk and let it sit while I mix the butter and sugar etc. But I do suggest using cake flour, it makes for a finer result.

    I often add 1/4-1/2 tsp of baking powder to brownie recipes as I prefer mine kind of in between cakey and fudgey. I guess you can play with the quantity of baking powder until it gets to the consistency you like?
