I just went in to update my 2014/15 income estimate and it says I have a debt which was raised on the 6th of June for family tax benefit b for $357.28.
We don't receive family tax benefit b. Does anyone know what this might be? Just to save me a phone call and wait time in excess of 45minutes.

Why do I owe centrelink for family tax benefit b?

It doesn't make sense if you haven't been receiving FTB B! I had a debt for FTB B but it was because DH lodged his tax return and he had earned an extra $5k than what I had thought he would. But we were receiving FTB B!! They must have stuffed up. I think you will have to call.

Have you received any FTB B in this financial year?
I got a debt last year because I estimated my income before I had a job after bub. I got a job in September and updated straight away which cut me off FTB and I had to pay back most of what I received previous to September.

Thanks for the replies!
I've not received any family tax benefit b. But I have just checked my payment history and I received 2 arrears payments in September 2013 - 1 for 648.30 and another for 338.53 in arrears for the supplement - why would they pay me in arrears and now ask for this back?

I have just spoken to centreline - the first person had no idea, they spoke to the "technical person" and they had not idea so now I need to wait for a phone call, possibly Wednesday, from another person to try to work it out.

Yep, it's frustrating. When the kids were younger I would end up with a CCR debt every year because Centrelink would pay me money they should not have, relise, then send out the debt letter.

Just an update - the debt has been reversed. Thanks for all the assistance, I'm glad I pursued it!

Great news! Definitely always pursue it. They have legislation to protect you. An idiot once told me my rent assistance debt was still valid even though I wasn't actually paid more than I was entitled too!! I hadn't updated how much rent I had been paying for 2 years and it created a debt cause it wasn't verified so the system created a debt. Whoops! It got reversed but was scary when I didn't know what was going on at the start!
