Contacted centerlink felt they had her rent assistance wrong they said that she was just using an old calculator for board and lodging not private rent. Anways they said it was fine, she felt confused. What do yousuggest?

It may well be the case that even the amended rent amount is still full rent assistance. You only need to pay $150 per week from memory to get the full amount. So even though it may have been listed she was paying $200, when really she was only paying $160, both would be full rent assistance thus she would owe nothing and they would just amend the amount.

Rent assistance is paid with FTB A. It's reconciled at tax time based on income (or child support payments if single). But the system picks up "potential overpayments" as soon as it happens. She can as to have "continuous adjustment" on her file to avoid these debts (payments will decrease if an overpayment is detected). Honestly, I would be telling her not to worry, even if she was overpaid she would NOT be prosecuted for that and she can pay it back at $5 a fortnight if she wants.

I see that's true but they didn't even wish to amend it they were like no. She was like well its possible I filled it out incorrectly due to a failure to understand the rules and complexities of the system. I would have thought they'd want to assess everything and get anything they're owed back but I don't think there is more you can do when they're adamant its okay. You're right maybe they saw the amount. She said "you don't wanna check with my landlord?" "nope" lol, what can you do? I guess even if there was an overpayment, if thy don't care to fix it, what can you do? She wld be willing to repay it if they later on audit and find any errors. She just does not want to be taken to court

That's true I guess she will have to wait and see if they will put in any review. She doesn't think they will since, from what she told me, they were very calm about it and said that they are happy with how things were coded. I guess if in time anything comes of it she can explain herself. she told them everything she knew and anything she didn't know she said she could arrange to bring her landlord in, but if they don't care to hear from either of them then there isn't a lot you can do.

What's she got to be paranoid about? If she's willing to pay back the extra now then if an audit happens then she'll just pay it back then instead. If she has contact cl several times on the matter then I'm sure she has the names of the officers she spoke with, just diary note it and deal with it if the situation arises.

They would've checked to make sure that it was correct coding done I'd assume hence why it was said everything looked OK. Most likely a note was placed on her file about nature of call.

Tell her to get a receipt number each time she calls.

And IF she got a debt she wouldn't be prosecuted. At worst she'd just have to pay it back once I got a $7,500 debt for rent assistance because I updated my rent paid 2 years later. Anyways to cut a long story short it was reversed because I wasn't actually overpaid anything and it was because it wasn't verified. If I had of actually had a true debt I would have had to pay it back.
