Laned - I did a single embryo transfer. My beautiful Sebbie is now 17 weeks old!! Not sure if I am correct but I think all those I have read on this thread who did single embryo transfers have been successful?!?

i was pretty clear on going that I would only do a single transfer given that I am single and felt twins would be too much for me to cope with. Drs there were happy though to make final decision on day of transfer based on numbers, quality etc. I had 10 blasts from 12 eggs so Dr H was in agreement that single embryo was the way to go. Hope this helps!

    2. Anyone other than Erin have x 1 emby TF successfully?
    3. Is anyone planning a DE cycle in October or November?
    4. Is anyone planning on travelling solo?

    Thanks gorgeous people. Xx
Great questions Laned, very keen to hear people's experiences.

Following the wise advice of you ladies, I had an AMH test, they sent it to SA and came back <3. Apparently this is the lowest score. So my fertility clinic have given me four options, all donor related.

I'm curious if anyone has tried the world egg bank through Monash? I've not done a lot of research on my options yet, perhaps somewhat in denial or just processing the news.

Many thanks and best wishes to you all.
    xx

    Hi @pinkshootingstar

I was at Monash w/ Lynn B, and I think Myheart was too... she ended up recommending SA over TWEB as they had been getting some pretty ordinary results with the egg bank program.
It is a lot more expensive than SA too at around 23k for the whole cycle with TWEB. SA cost us about 15k and we stayed in 4 star accommodation etc, it is possible to do it for around 10k. Plus you have more control with SA, choosing the donor etc, they have a back up frozen egg bank should your donor not respond as required, so there is low risk of having nothing to transfer. Or you might get lucky like MrsErin R and get a heap of embryos (like 20+) and have a lot of frosties to go back for. The average result seems to be approx 12-17 eggs at pick up, two blastocysts to transfer and 2-4 to freeze. These are just my observations from a couple of years on this thread and not at all scientific! But to give you an idea.
Cape Town was a brilliant affordable holiday too (once you're there).
I'm now 18w from my cycle in SA, I recommend it highly.

    Hope that helps...
    Emx

    Hi ladies

Thought Id pop in and say hi. Congrats to all the new pregnancies (so many twins!) and thoughts are with the lovely ladies who have not yet had success. Hang in there.

We have a gorgeous 7 month old baby from our first attempt at CFC last year and happy to report a positive pregnancy today to top it off, from the frozen embryos we left behind. So we're good proof that its worth the effort.

Laned - great questions! We transferred 2 each time, and had a singleton from the fresh cycle, who knows with this (god help us if its twins and a 15 month old) - but we felt that that extra 10% chance of success outweighed the risk of twins, especially having to go all that way. Plus I did it leaving at home my 6 month old baby with DH. A flying 2 day visit...

Ive been to CT on my own now twice, and its absolutely fine (great even if you are leaving baby behind!). I had the lovely Gizelle (via Sarah Hewland acupuncture) drive me around, pick me up and return me to the airport. I flew in on the Monday night, transfer Tuesday, rest day Wednesday, home Thursday. All very very easy (and relaxing!).

So ladies, I wish everyone the success we have had, and hope that you too share the joy that some amazing woman on the other side of the world has offered us.

Congratulations @Twowhites ! Brilliant news. Can I ask how many frosties did you have? Did you get a 100% thaw rate? We are already thinking of #2 and have 2 frosties waiting. I'm a bit nervous already thinking of going all that way and not having them thaw.

    Hi Em
We collected 20 eggs, 15 progressed to day 5 blasts, transferred 2 and froze 8.
Then FET#1 (fail) thawed 4 to get 2 to transfer (only because we had plenty they suggested thawing another 2 to get 2 better ones) but none took (I had only just had a baby 4 months prior and wasn't in very good condition myself I have to say, plus I had a filthy flu: FET#2 (positive) thawed 2 to transfer 2. Now have 2 left in the freezer. Its amazing how quickly you can go from 20 to 2!! But assuming this pregnancy is all good, I think Ill be happy with my 2...
Having said that I asked Dr Heylen and Dr Le Roux their expert opinion as to having 2 in the freezer should I do a new fresh cycle instead and they were both 100% insistent that no, best to use the 2 frozens, as they are seeing almost as good success rates from frozen these days as they are fresh, glad I took their advice this time - almost went back for a full cycle, but saved ourselves $7K!
If they froze them they must be good quality
    Good luck! x

KLM – great results..! How are things progressing?

Laned – thank you for the kind words. Are you planning on another trip to SA…?

    Wish – lovely pic…!

Sunflower – my friend had bleeds on and off and is nearly 7 months now and baby is growing well…for two beautiful heartbeats at your next scan...all the symptoms look good...

Pinkshootingstar – I think we will be going with The World Egg Bank. It is very expensive and you only get 7 frozen eggs. There is a guarantee that 4 will thaw. Have you had a look at the donor list? Em is right that the results have not been the best. I am seeing my doctor tomorrow and am planning to ask her if the results have gotten any better….I’ll let you know.

Twowhites – congratulations..! and good luck with this pregnancy – keep us informed how you go..

Em – 18 weeks..! That is so exciting..!!

Hi to January, Feather and all the other lovely ladies and man…!

AFM - pulling ourselves together after the BFN... looking at next options. We are comparing The World Egg Bank verses South Africa. Our issue is my husband's business as he can't leave at short notice and TWEB send the eggs here... The cost and success rate is better for SA but my husband's sperm is not the best so I'm concerned about freezing it...he is worried that if I go alone, the flight back would be turbulent...

My heart - just to weigh in on your post. I can relate to the difficulties of trying to coordinate work around a cycle half a world away. We have the same except with my job instead. It is certainly frustrating. I had a recent consult with my specialist here (the infamous "wazza") and I too asked about TWEB and his response was a VERY profound "don't waste your money, they are rubbish". He explained that he too had used them over a period of time for his patients and he had always found them to be poor quality. He now advocates SA, Greece and Argentina or the US. For a man who deals with everyone else's "too hard basket" cases I found his opinion important. Ultimately you have to make the decision that is right for you and one that you will be happy with regardless of the outcome. Needless to say we will be returning to SA.

KLM, good luck for tomorrow transfer!!!

laned, we transferred 2 embryos and got a shock of our life after all these failed IVF attempts with DE here in AU that we are expecting twins! Plus 7 in the freezer!

Myheart, we looked at TWEB with Monash, but it is so expensive and such a long wait! I put myself on a waiting list beginning of February (was 19 in the queue) and still have not heard from them (well, not that i need them anymore). They ship 6 eggs for 20k and the thaw rate with the eggs is not that great as opposite to frozen embryos. Plus on top of it you have to pay for own cycle, meds, consultations! Plus for us we had to have travelling expenses like taxis, flight, accommodation ( i am from Sydney). Would end up with more then 25k + per cycle! Too much! With SA you get a fabulous holiday plus IVF for so much cheaper and they work around your needs, your cycle. After all heartbreaking BFN i am regretting for not going to SA earlier.
