Can anyone tell me about living in Cairns.
I need to know about which suburbs are nice.
Which are the good high schools and primary schools?
Anything you can tell me will help, good, bad and ugly.

Also, forgot to say ...
Lifestyle is great! If you like the outdoors, there are a million and one things to do. Beautiful place! Also, the fruit and veg are GIANT! The people can be a bit cliquey there, though. Most we're lovely, but there was a noticeable difference in the way they interacted with us once they realised we were southerners haha!
Downside - if you don't like heat or humidity, it's not for you. In the wet season, I swear you can feel the moisture being evaporated up from the hot ground. Also, it is prone to just bucketing down with no warning.
In some of the suburbs, there is poverty that can be quite confronting. When I lived there, I regularly saw young kids (5 and up) walking to school in the rain with no shoes, no umbrella, no raincoat, nothing. Just a t shirt and shorts. It opened my eyes a little.
Also, driving is like the wacky races. I can honestly say that the worst drivers I have ever encountered were while I was in Cairns haha!
But all in all, I enjoyed my time there. It was different to anything is experienced before, and I loved the climate and the lifestyle
I'd say the good outweighs the bad. Hth

I lived in cairns and loved it. Would Ho back in a heart beat but there is no work. I like the Tabelands better. Gods country up there as they say and much better climate.

Property is so cheap up there as well. Great organic and community living.

I could go on and on about redlynch. The mountain view, easy access to south, north and central cairns. I love the rain, you get use to the heat, aircon is your friend
