I think if you are working hard for money and that money is going elsewhere then you have every right to express an opinion on the subject. It doesn't mean you will get your way though.

I think if you want a say in how tax dollars are spent you should carefully consider who you vote for- because once you've paid your tax it isn't yours anymore!

You do get to have an opinion every 3 years (give or take) when you vote.

So we are only allowed to have an opinion and whinge at election time? That theory would shut BH down... Particularly the 'I don't like the budget' thread... (Which I am an active participant on...)

I don't think anyone on this forum is in that situation.

I disagree... Unless you are counting road usage etc.... I'm only counting $ specifically assigned to a person (CCR, CCb, phi rebate, pension etc)

No, but this is when you have an opportunity to exercise that opinion. Once you pay your taxes they aren't yours any more. Its like giving someone cash for their birthday then complaining that you don't like what they bought with it. It's not yours anymore so the whole "my tax dollars" point is moot- they are only your dollars before you pay them. So if you are concerned with how they will be spent- invest some time before you vote; learn about each party, learn how to make your vote count. It's fair to be disappointed or unhappy with how the govt spends govt money- it's how you frame it that matters because the whole "my tax dollars" attitude makes people feel that they are being personally ripped off to support things they disagree with when really thats not the case.
