    The government can be declared vacated if Liberal politicians cross the floor and a vote of no confidence is passed in the government ... but that isnt going to happen.

    If the Libs cannot get this budget through, the governor general can sack the government (as happened to Gough Witlam) .. but that also isnt likely to happen.

    lol - that is called an election.

    The reason the Libs have introduced this now is because
    a) they can blame the whole 'problem' on the previous government; and
    b) they have 2 more budgets before they face the electorate in order to win/bribe people back with votes.

    Every first term budget is a difficult one, as they do as much as they can first up hoping that people will forget, and giving themselves time/space/money to win people back closer to the election.

    Voters have short memories.

    this one will be interesting.

    People who are struggling, and have what little they have taken off them by a government who doesnt think they have done anything wrong ... well, their memories last a bit longer
