    My one year old loves books. She got some great pressies for her bday. Faves include a bowl and plate set, a touch feel hungry caterpillar book, bath toys, the fisher price little people in cars and a ball. She loves balls!!
    those things should be in your budget. I don't spent more than $10-15 on presents. With 3 kids, it gets very expensive.

    A friend of mine bought my son a 2nd hand book off Amazon as it was about a child with the same name. It was especially fantastic as my son's name is a bit unusual so he is now proud (he's 6) to own such a book.

    I bought a bag of balls (to make a ball pit) and a pop up tent for a 1year old girl just last week. The bag of balls were a huge hit, only $12 from Kmart. I could have gotten away with buying only the balls, the kids literally climbed over each other to get to them!
    I also agree with books. Can't go wrong with books :-)
