DS1 is almost 6 and DS2 almost 4 and they do this. Our doors are deadbolted and they're generally pretty good.

They've been doing this for maybe 2 years now? DS3 is 10 months. If he's up, we're up.

My kids are 5 and 6. They've been getting up on their own, pouring themselves a cup of milk and switching on the tv to watch cartoons for about the last 12 months. They always come in to our bed for a few cuddles first and ask if they can go downstairs

DS is 3 and has been going downstairs on his own for some time now. He gets into the peanut butter! So I usually drag myself out of bed within about 5 minutes of him getting up as I don't trust him!

I prefer the the morning we lay and cuddle and tickle.

Dd1 has been doing it since she was about 3. She would get up and just turn the tv on to abc kids and watch it til I got up. Now she is almost 7 she gets up, most mornings gets herself and dd2 something to eat and occasionally gets dd3 up if shes awake. They just play or watch tv until I get up.

Dd2 went through a stage of waking up at 3 or 4am and she would just sit on the couch in the dark with the tv on waiting for abc kids to start lol. Most mornings o would find her passed out on the couch.

    me + he = dd1 (July 2007), dd2 (July 2010), dd3 (August 2012), dd4 (due May 2014) + sil (1997)

Ds has been doing this since about 5yrs. Although it took him a while to learn that muesli bars were not breakfast food. We spent a week practising pouring out milk and cereal etc so he felt confident getting it all himself.

Now at 7 he happily makes toast or cereal no dramas and then goes onto making his lunch too.
