My sister's partner bought into a travel club years ago with his ex wife, paid a mint for it and has to continue making monthly payments. Apparently you can only get out of it by selling it but you have to find someone willing to buy it and the club won't help you on-sell it. Membership is for 75 years .
Has anybody got any experience with getting out of these things? I don't know how it can even be legal.
I also have no idea how his ex has no liability for it since her name is on it too.

I've never heard of it (just googled it though). What happens if he just stops paying?

I read one of those contracts once. They are such a rort.
Where did he sign up to the contract?
Has he tried fair trading? If they can't help, then he needs to take it to a solicitor for advice. If he can't afford that, then he can try a community legal centre.

For your money you might get a weeks accommodation a year somewhere.
I think he paid about 15 grand to buy in (and he is a smart guy too).
I think he signed up for it in Qld, not sure if he has been to fair trading. Thanks MsMummy, I will suggest legal advice.

Apparently if you stop paying they send collection agencies after you.
So next time someone hands you a free scratch-it with a chance to win a holiday, run, don't walk from these people.

Caxton legal run a consumer law clinic in Brisbane. They may be able to help him.
They are terrible deals. It's heaps cheaper just to pay for accommodation as you need it. But they sucker people in while on hols, show them luxurious rooms etc.

Thanks for that, I will get them to contact Caxton.
