Default Baby moccasins / leather work

Anyone sewed with soft leather in their seeing machine. Did you need a specia needle?
Any tips, recommendations for trying it out?

I would love to have a play at making some little baby moccasins like this.

You can buy heavy duty needles from spotlight. I use the 'jeans' needles for my quilting and they go through 3 layers if fabric and batting. I'm sure that would work with leather

No. Sorry. I couldn't find the right type of leather in a small enough quantity to make it affordable.
Ended up bying some instead. : )
