Default When to contact/book in with Private Midwife??

    Hi ladies,

My hubby and I just found out we are expecting our first bub! Super exciting. We have always planned to have a homebirth when our time came and I was just wondering when we should contact the midwives we are interested in meeting?
I am only 4 weeks so feel like it could be a bit early.
When did you ladies start contacting potential midwives??
I also don't want to leave it too late and miss out!

    Thanks!

I had my first appt with my midwife at about 6 weeks. You would want to have the first appt by 20 weeks at the latestnI think. My midwife gave me my ultrasound referrals so of you want to discuss the 12 week scan etc then you would want an earlier appt. My midwives only took a certain no. of women a month so its good to book in early.

Eta: if you want to meet potential midwives & then decide, i suggest you start straight away.

As soon as possible! Some book up very quickly! Also you might need to meet a few before you find the one that fits your birth plans and philosophy. Don't be scared about meeting one and not being the right fit.

I booked in today with my midwife and I'm only five weeks. It was just a quick phone call (she has my history from previous HB's). I won't actually see her for an appointment until 14 weeks maybe, but that is my choice. It's good to book in early as they can book up quickly, and some may not take bookings over Xmas/holiday period. Good luck
