Thanks Kiwi76, still waiting for my book to turn up in the mail.

I got my referral for NK cell testing in the mail today from my FS. It came with an info sheet called "NK Cells - New Investigations". I thought the paragraph below was interesting:

NK Cell Testing can be considered for patients in the following situations:
    - recurrent miscarriages - defined as:
    - 3 successive miscarriages if aged less than 35 years
    - 2 successive miscarriages if aged over 35 years
    - repeated IVF failure - defined as:
    - 2 or more unsuccessful fresh IVF cycles
    - unexplained infertility (where a patient does not want IVF)
    - patient request

I'm a bit annoyed as DH and I were diagnosed as "unexplained infertility" almost a year ago and my line of questioning made it pretty clear that I didn't see the point of IVF if we were "unexplained". Yet this test was never mentioned, I had to directly ask for it. By the posts in this thread it doesn't seem like the FS raises it with the patient very often.

@Blueberry Swirl, you hit the nail on the head right there. If you don't ask for it, they are reluctant to offer the testing. We end up spending years and thousands of $$ and it wouldn't have worked anyway!

Good to know they will do the tests though, some won't.

saw my FS today, he said he doesn't test for natural HK cells unless IVF failures or miscarriages, we have now been classed as unexplained infertility tho .
I rang dr M on monday and they are sending out a form for me to fill out so hopefully it is al sorted before we start IVF.

At this rate I should be cycling by this time next year.
Soclose get him to call Dr Benny at Next Generation in Parramatta, he does them!!! So does Dr Nick Lotigas (sp?) at monash in melbourne. Let me know how you go! Xxx

Soclose -Wazza (QFG).and Glen Sterling (Life) do Intralipids in Brisbane. Maybe worth speaking to one of them. You will probably have more luck with Wazza talking to your specialist. Also, if your FS works near a major hospital then you could ask him to admit you into a day infusion lab. The ladies who work in infusion labs do Intralipids and IVIG all the time so will know exactly how to do it.

I'm so glad I found this forum before starting IVF, I would have been starting next week when AF arrives but am going to hold out until I see Dr M to see what he has to say.

The testing is done through a public hospital and they then send the results back to FS. Am still deciding whether to go ahead with this test which I can do tomorrow, if only to get some answers now or to just wait until when I see Dr M in May because it sounds like he will do his own tests anyway? FS has said that they will only treat me if I am doing IVF, and I would like to see if I can get pregnant with just immune treatment (if that's the issue anyway).

Precious heart does dr Benny really do them? That's new bc when I started immune treatment in sept 2012 he was dead against it for me! Worked first time
Though! What does he charge, and where does he do the infusion?

I can't believe my FS refused to test me for NK cells even after saying we are now unexplained and me asking to be tested, he just wants me to hand over $10,000 without being tested for something first, I think not!

Just got my information sheet from Dr M in the mail.
