Hi, desperately needing any information/advice regarding moving to Mackay!
What is Mackay like to raise young children?
Is there work for DH who is a carpenter/cabinet maker?
We have made the decision to pack up & start over, but would just like to hear other people's past experience/advice with once we get there!
Thanks in advance

Hi AndyK. Not sure if you've moved yet or not as your post was a while ago but we've been in mackay now since early 2011. In the past we have moved every three years but last year we decided Mackay was where we wanted to start our family so we bought property and now we're planning in being here a while :-)
Not sure about schools or kindy etc in mackay itself as we don't have kids yet. But the area is pretty vast and has lots of opportunities. Work is a bit slow at the moment but like anywhere, it ebbs and flows. It's a matter of getting out there and getting to know people. Word of mouth is unreal up here as it is so small lol still have all the conveniences you could need though. I love it. Is there a particular area in mackay you're planning on living?

Hi! Mackay is a good place for small kids! There's a lot of parks, beaches nearby and nothing is too far to drive to. Things are a lot less hectic than in a capital city. One of my favourite places to take the kids in Mackay is the Bluewater Lagoon - basically a FREE swimming pool and park for kids. Is awesome. http://www.bubhub.com.au/reviews/bro..._lagoon_mackay
