Just saw on Facebook someone posted a pic of their 2 sons and wrote "brother's". Why the apostrophe???

That really annoys me, the people who seem to think that every single word and name that ends in an s MUST have have an apostrophe before the s, no exceptions.

Or people who don't know how to use the plural possessive apostrophe. The brothers' room, for example. It is the room belonging to both brothers.

dh's sil got some stickers made up for envelopes for their return/sender address (like instead of manually writing it on the back of envelopes each time)

supposing their surname is black, the sticker says "The Black's"

    makes me cringe every time.

My cousin's wife always does that. And there's a house near here that has the name on the fence in fancy metal letters with an apostrophe like that. Eg Smith's. Maybe it's only one person who lives there not a family? Just one Smith?

Default Spelling and Grammar Vent Thread #4

Got a report back from the second editor today. He corrected it's back to its' - which it should be but the first person had changed my its' to it's. Confusing!

OMG - I just googled and it should just be its.

I hate it when people say 'I ain't got nothing'. Which technically means 'I do not have nothing' or 'I have something'. How do they not understand that the sentence means the opposite of what they are trying to say!
