I bought the 7" galaxy tab for my kids. I think u can get them as low as $190 sometimes.
The good thing about it is that you can have a micro sd card for additional storage, so you can have heaps of apps plus load her favorite movies on as well.
I looked at buying the cheapies but the memory on them was so low that you wouldn't be able to do much so it was pretty pointless.
The other one I looked at was the the Google Nexus which looked pretty ok too.

I agree that most cheap tablets are crap. I think it's worth investing in a iPad or good quality tablet. Mostly because it will last longer and also because the quality of apps is superior. Things like reading eggs and mathletics have been great for DD. Plus, I generally believe that if you buy cheap, you buy twice.

We bought one for ds, worked ok then went to load some more apps 2 nights before his bday and it wouldn't work! Returned it and got an iPad mini from office works for $298. A lot more money but a better investment I think.

Showing just how behind I am when it comes to technology... reading the thread title I thought it was about vitamins or medication of some sort... (I bought my first "smart phone" just this year, haha..)
