    Hey Blossom88,

Wow that is a fair amount of time to wait isn't it!
Is that through the public hospital?

We saw a private consultant (can't remember what the specialist was called) within a few days of me making an appointment and my DS was sized for the helmet and fitted the following week. It all happened really quickly from getting the referral from our GP.

Yes please keep me updated 😃😃😃

My DD has an obstetric brachial plexus injury affecting her nerves in her neck on the right side. I noticed she was favoring the right side a lot snd regular visits to our chiro has fixed it.

So without it she would've got a flat spot. I do urge you if interested to seek personal recommendations on a baby/child chiro.

Hi Blossom, sorry I've only just seen your thread!

Our DD had a helmet too. She started wearing it when she was 7 months old and she had it for 3.5 months. Like Kiwimum's DS, our DD ended up wearing it for 23 hours a day and we had no issues with it at all. We saw results within the first few weeks and have no doubt it helped DD immensely.

Like you, I was really anxious about it to begin with, too - what if DD hated it? What if she wouldn't sleep in it? What if people stared at her? What if it hurt her? What if she screamed the whole time? We went through the Royal Children's in Melbourne and I asked the specialists lots and lots of questions which really eased my mind.

DD took the helmet completely in her stride, was never cranky about it and had no trouble sleeping in it. We would take it off for her bath, give the helmet a good clean (or it would get sweaty and smelly - yuck!) and pop it back on before bed. We did have lots of people look at her while she was wearing it, but she did look adorable!

As for the chiro, we visited one regularly to help DD's stiff neck muscles (which were contributing to her flat spot) but chiro alone wouldn't have been enough.

I am so glad we had the helmet, and we wouldn't change a thing. It's all just a distant memory now, and DD has no recollection of it at all.

Please feel free to PM me if you want to - I found it to be a really stressful time (even if DD didn't), so I'm here if you need me
