MrsMac, I'm just now starting my 6th cycle, however the very first one I did was an oocytyte freeze - mainly due to my marriage had just broken up, I was 40, with a new guy but it was too early too commit to a baby with him. Things have thankfully progressed since then and new guy and I are full steam ahead with ivf. I have no fertility issues, just age is against me, so opted not to wait to fall naturally. Anyhoo, regarding the egg freeze. The clinic knew my situation and strongly suggested I either use ex hubby or new guy to fertilise due to the high risk with freezing eggs. Of course I declined and went ahead anyway with the freeze. The reason they didnt want me to do it is the high risk when defrosting - an egg is only 1 cell, whereas embryos are many, so when defrosting you can easily lose 1 or more cells with embies, BUT the egg is only 1 cell, so the loss rate is much higher. They froze 10 however and I'm not sure, but I think around half thawed..? They were defrosted and fertilised with my first full egg pickup ivf then refrozen and I'm left with onlhy 2 of them.
This new cycle is a boost cycle - and boy oh boy are they going to boost me !! I'm on 900 gonal-fplus 75 of luveris for the first 2 days , then it reduces to 450 gonal plus 75 luveris for the remaining 7 days. I start the synarel on the same day as the jabs this time, which is different too.. They are pretty keen to pull out all stops as I'm 42 in 3 months so I think they are getting desperate on my behalf ..... fingers crossed. EPU will be in around 3 weeks time, results will be available just after easter

Leyshoja I haven't heard the term boost cycle before. Is this to try and get more frozen embryos?
I've only ever done two full stim cycles before and neither time did we get any to freeze. The first cycle had one embryo that would have been fit for freezing but we did a fresh transfer which failed. The second time we had two embryos that wouldn't have been fit for freezing if we wanted to so we put both back and one turned into my 14 month old son.
I soooo want to get enough good quality embryos to freeze some this time. I'm doing all I can to improve my chances so my fingers are crossed.

Although if you are talking about harvesting as many as you can and freezing the embies, they will do that regardless, but will still implant you with 1 or 2. Even if you do a full cycle and freezing all the embryos, because they will generally make you wait for a month before they'll let you have another full cycle (well my clinic does anyway) so you will still lose a couple of months anyway and therefore you may as well implant.
I see your point regarding the 8 weeks, then miscarry, then wait a month to start again, at which point you've lost 3 or 4 months, but thats the gamble we all have to take. I miscarried exactly that way last September and was so stressed about all the months I had just lost, but it could just as easily have gone the other way and I'd be having a bub shortly.
I have 3 frozen embies, but I'm hanging onto them as my backup. If I risk using them now, and lose those 3 months say by miscarrying or they just fail to implant, I'll be over 42 by then and not much chance of retrieving any quality eggs, so I'm retrieving eggs now while I still can. Time is NOT my friend ! We don't get on at all.

Hi BecInBliss, I think the 'boost' bit is the addition of the luveris? Not really sure... At the moment the luveris is being supplied to ivf clinics on 'compassionate grounds' for poor responders (aka old women like us) so its usually around $2000 but the clinics can get it for free. Apparently it greatly improves the quality but not necessarily the quantity - thats what the huge dose of gonal-f is for.

My previous experience with ivf was very stock standard but with a higher dose of fsh (450 first cycle then 600 the second cycle).
I'm now learning about a whole stack of other drugs that can be used. This time I'm being put on 900iu of the fsh which freaks me out a bit. He's also putting me on a slow release version of the fsh drug which I can't remember the name of, plus sazien and something else I also can't remember the name of. Gah! It's all a bit scary.

Hi BecinBliss, I was on this mammoth cycle once where I was taking a couple of different drugs (like Menopur, Saizen & Orgalutran) along with 900 FSH. Unfortunately it was my worst cycle in terms of quantity of follicles & eggs. I can't help but think its due to the high dose having a positive/negative effect.... but anyway.... I think we found the magic formula at 600 Gonal F (starting at 450 in the first 8 days). Everyone's different but just thought I'd mention it just in case you find that you are not responding at the beginning of the cycle. Obviously, I hope & pray it all works out for you
Emski, you poor thing. I didn't realise you would have to be on so many meds.... I naively thought a bit of progesterone but gee... How silly am I? All the best with the increase over the weekend. I hope the symptoms don't get any worse.
everyone & have a nice weekend

My FS won't give me any more than 450 gonal f, she thinks it overcooks the eggs so you might get more but quality and fertilisation rates are lower.
I've never had any good enough to freeze.

Emski.... oh, that's why my hair is falling out in literally, great clumps!! Due to the prednisolone. I was thinking, oh terrific, yet another problem with me, so I'm glad that you mentioned it. There's no way I could ever grow back the amount that is falling out, it's quite a lot, every single day. Have been fairly quiet recently, but very excited about your upcoming adventure to SA and have been following with great interest. Best of luck xx

Welcome BecInBliss and anyone I have missed that has joined in the last few days.
I had my first obstetrician appointment this morn and all went ok. Heart beat has increased from 150bpm last week to 160bpm this week. Growth apparently also looks normal.
8 weeks today, I think its been the 8 longest weeks of my life. LOL!
Doc said if I make it to 10 weeks and everything is still ok that it will be fine for me to take the holiday we had planned to the US. I was worried about being away until over 13 weeks with tests and scans etc. Not sure how I will be feeling but hoping a holiday may help to relax me a bit.
