Age is from 2 months onwards. The number of shots required (including boosters) and the timing of them depends on the child's age, and is discussed in this document: www.tga.gov.au/word/auspar/auspar-meningococcal-131031-pi.docx
I haven't followed up on the price yet.

Just an update - after much chasing around wholesalers, my pharmacist has been able to find out that this vax won't be available in WA until the end of March. I don't know when it will be available in other states. Until it is available, she isn't able to tell me what the price is. One thing to note - I called my PHI and it will be covered under "Pharmaceuticals" on our policy with Bupa (ie. covers 80% of the out of pocket, after the $23 Medicare rebate).

WE just had the first of 2 injections for our 2 kids yesterday (3 and 6). The injections will be 8 weeks apart. It will cost us in total $640 and we should get $200 back from our private health fund. We did stacks of research and had a lengthy chat with our family GP. Apart from the cost we couldn't find any negatives. Our GP is also getting her children done. No side effects so far except a sore arm and it's been 24 hours. Fevers seem to be the only side effect listed.
    Hope this helps.

Thanks for the update. So is that cost for both kids or per child?

My DD just had her first shot and it was $120. No money back from Medicare or PHI. But, as PP said, peace of mind is invaluable!

Thanks for bumping this thread! It reminded me to call my GP office and ask about the cost......waiting for the immunisation nurse to call me back.
