Yep weekday or Sunday weddings are cheaper normally. Try and pick a quieter month too.

Thanks for the advice girls!
We're from the NE suburbs of melbourne so were looking at yarra valley, some places are still as expensive as in the city, but we're checking out one restaurant on saturday that suits our budget a bit more, but hopefully will have enough left over the a long honeymoon. We're looking at a morning ceremony/lunch reception. Not sure if sundays are cheaper & if they do week day weddings (which hopefully is also cheaper), but I will ask!

So I had a chat with DF about the 'indefinite' status of our wedding date a couple of days ago. I basically told him that if he can save up and set aside $15k in a few months for his engine, then we can do the same for the wedding. I'm not even asking for that much- half of that would do fine, so we are going to only have 50 or so guests, and Mum has offered to pay for the material and make my dress, my flowergirl dress and the bridesmaid dress. That's a saving of at least a thousand dollars right there (compared to buying from shops).
I said all we need is a marriage licence, a celebrant and a reception and photographer. They're the big spends. There is a local wedding expo here next weekend so I will be seeking out vendors and enquiring about costs during peak and off peak seasons etc.
So watch this space! There will be a wedding next year sometime after all

Good news Nomsie!
We have gotten a quote for ours which is just under $3500 and includes venue for ceremony and reception, 3 course dinner for 25people, drinks, 3 nights accommodation overlooking the river, BBQ breakfast for everyone the next morning. Then we just have to pay marriage license/celebrant, clothing, rings. I'm not doing flowers, transport (we will be staying at the property)... Looks like we might be able to come in around $5-6000 which would be great

Only just found this chat!! So exciting!
I'm in the process of planning mine and assisting my mum with hers (which is before mine).
We have set and date and booked a venue, Barwon Park mansion

I'm so excited. It's my dream venue and isn't overly expensive. We have to arrange our own catering but we don't need a liquor license and can byo!
Will have to read through everyone's ideas now!!

Yay Nomsie that's exciting. Better get planning as it flies around quick.
We are on the downward run to ours.
3weeks and ours will be over and done with.
Everything is all sorted our end now. Waiting for DF to get home from his bucks night just hoping there's no shaved heads or eyebrows etc.
