Does anyone know when you actually book your hospital if you are going private?
I've heard its at 10 weeks, is this correct?

When to book private hospital
21-01-2014 17:38 #2
My hospital required the forms to be submitted by 16w, however I rang up & 'booked' around the 10wk mark. The forms were given to me by my OB at my first appointment.
Edit: I wasn't required to call up at 10wks, I just did with my first. Second time around I just took my forms in once I had completed them (I was about 13wk at the time).

I don't remember when I did it the first time round, but for this bub I got excited and called to make my 'booking in' appointment when I was about 5wks. I think I was about 10wks when I actually had the appointment.
You'll need to see your OB first to get paperwork from them (your yellow card etc) and then an book in after that.

My OB told me I needed to call the hospital asap, which we did at 7wks. No idea if we wouldn't have gotten in had we waited, but he made it sound urgent. We didn't actually do all the paperwork till we did a tour at 10wks.
Re the cost, it totally depends. I estimate we'll be $5k out of pocket not counting the additional cost to upgrade our private insurance.
