Default Ob costs south east Melbourne

Hi all. Just found out we are pregnant. Unplanned but slowly becoming wanted. Question is, our phi doesn't cover pregnancy. Last pregnancy I saw an ob as a public patient (was delivered public) and it cost me like $7k all up!!! I would like good care like pregnant as I have high bp and my first born was born small for dates (iugr) but $7k?? Really? Surely there is a cheaper option. I'm in south east Melbourne (near Berwick) and will prob deliver at Monash.. any advise ladies? Tia x

You could do shared care with your GP and a midwife. That will cut costs significantly and your GP can keep an eye on your blood pressure. I wouldn't go through a private ob without insurance. Way too expensive.

I'm not exactly sure, perhaps ask your GP or local public hospital? I am going private but I have heard great things about shared care.
