I used to work with a Larissa and her nickname was Larry(everyone would call her that). I dont mind the name, not one i would personally pick though.

I'm Marissa and I am friends with a Larissa. Neither of us have any complaints with our names. We both get called Rissa, Riss or Rissy, if you are interested in what it generally seems to get shortened to.

Thanks everyone for the feedback, I needed some honest opinions as I am not Australian and I've just been told by someone that Larissa is perceived here as a bogan name!?!
